The smart grid promises better services and higher reliability but is exposed to new security threats. In particular, deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMIs) will vastly increase the attack surface because of the smart meters installed in customer homes. Managing the security of AMIs cannot be done manually because of their size and complexity. Thus, the authors propose a three-step plan to bring automated responses to AMIs. Considering the challenges of automated responses, they will develop taxonomy of response actions in AMIs.
