User-Defined Clocks in the Real-Time Specification for Java
In this paper, the authors analyze the new user-defined clock model that is to be supported in version 1.1 of the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ). The model is a compromise between the current position, where there is no support for user-defined clocks, and a fully integrated model. The paper investigates the implications of supporting a fully generalized model from both the specification's and an implementation's viewpoint. It concludes that for RTSJ the scope of changes required to fully integrate user-defined clocks into the specification would have a major impact on current implementations.
