Various Methods Used for the Protection, Detection and Prevention of Application Layer DDOS Attacks

Among all the attacks that occur on a web application like SQL Injection, XSS (Cross Site Scripting) attacks, DDOS attacks, etc., DDOS are the most difficult to detect and prevent. DDOS attacks occur mainly at two levels : application layer and network layer. Application layer DDOS attacks are very difficult to detect and prevent than the attacks at network layer because app layer DDOS attacks include protocols like HTTP, DNS, etc. which are never blocked by any Firewalls and IDS/IPS. Also so much research work has been done to detect and prevent DDOS attack at network layer. So this paper will be focusing on the various steps currently taken to protect, detect and prevent App DDOS attacks.
