Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) developed the Wireless IP Access System (WIPAS), a point-to-multipoint Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) system utilizing the 26-GHz frequency band for home and Small Office-Home Office (SOHO) users to provide broadband internet access service. WIPAS provides a broadband access service by combining wireless technology with optical fiber. They describe this structure as "Fiber + radio." WIPAS provides a best-effort-type IP service with the transmission rate of 80 Mbit/s. WIPAS is compatible with FTTH in terms of cost, transmission speed and user interface, and is a part of NTT's broadband access infrastructure.
