2 network segment using 1 Ethernet port

i have 2 segment (class B with 254 host)but it is a flat LAN with no Layer 3 switch/router capabilities…originally the cisco router was configured to cater only 1 segment…then we decide to extend and Add another class B segment…what is the impact of the modification on the router…from performance wise???
