2 Routers, 1 Network and an argument

We have two offices that have recently come together. Previously each office has its own router using BRI which connects to a central router in another location, which in turn connects via a 256k frame relayoverseas.

Now we have joined both offices and networks. Here is where the argument starts. My college insists that we will need to divide the network into 2 subnets and assign the router 2 IP?s (one for each subnet), if we wish to continue to have users use both routers. I can not see why this is the case.

So who is right?
