Access 2000

I have build a table with standard information. Within that table I have a Birthday column. Formatting is 00/00/0000.
I have build a query to pull up the current month’s birthday’s. I have the query to ask me what month I would like. When I type in03 or 10 the query will not being up anything. Why? Is it looking for more? Any help would be grateful!
