Access tables linked to their own file

by chasmann . Updated 9 years, 3 months ago

Hi

I have a stand-alone Access file (Not FE/BE) whose tables appear to be linked back to itself – like a FE/BE! I have no idea how this came about.
I want to separate the code and data and create a proper FE/BE set-up but I cannot export the data/definition or the definition only to another access database as Access just exports the link. Nor can I import the tables from another database – the same happens.

If I copy the file to a new location, the tables continues to link back to the original file, but I still cannot perform any of the exports or imports.
I have tried to use the Convert to Local Table, but Access will not allow relationships between local and linked tables: Nor can I remove relationships; I get the message ‘You can’t delete relationship inherited from a linked database’. I seem to be in a Catch-22 situation.

I can export to Excel, build a new database and re-import, but there are relationships between tables and indexes in the tables. There are 28 tables. All would need rebuilding but I am loathe to do it in case anything gets missed.

Has anybody had experience of this and can advise me of a way forward?

Many thanks
