AD on 2k MEMSVR in NT enviro. possible

My boss wants to be able to run RIS on on a NT4 network. Ive told him to just upgrade to 2000 on the PDC but he doesnt want to do this. It has one win2000 member server. Is it possible to enable active directory on the member server but not have it effect the PDC or play havoc on the network.
