Adaptec Cd writer 4

I really need some help and don’t know where to go so decided I would just try you. I tried to copy a musical cd on my Adaptec Easy cd writer 4 and I get to 3% and my computer freezes up each time. I tried to close off all programs and also took offmy screen savers so I could have more memory and no luck. Still the same thing.
Any suggestions? I am trying to copy a cd that I purchased. Gift of Heaven,
