Administrator passwords

Please help, I have system on our network that accepts the administrator password but has no administrator rights whatsoever, is there any other way other than rerunning the setup to correct the problem of the administrator not having administrator rights, this is very urgent as we need to add a com port to the system in NT 4 environment but without administrator rights you cannot do this.
