I have a user that is using Adobe Reader 8.x with all updates and Adobe Acrobat 9.x with all updates.
Her setup has been an absolute nightmare. Initially, IE was crashing anytime she clicked on a PDF link. In the past, when it did this, the offending culprit was an adobe *.dll file. I resolved the issue by associating PDF files with the READER instead of Acrobat.
However, on her computer, it simply wouldn’t work. So, I changed her Reader configuration to open in a separate window. That was an acceptable work-around. HOWEVER, ADP, for security purposes, will NOT let you open a pay-stub in a separate window. So, now I just get the dreaded red “X” in place of the PDF file in the IE window.
FWIW, she’s running XP Pro, SP3 with all updates and using IE7. It did the same thing with IE6.
Right now, my guess is that it has to do with Acrobat 9.x. It seems like any Acrobat products past version 8.x are garbage. I’ve never had these issue until 9.x came along.
I’ve reset her IE setting, removed and reinstalled both Acrobat and Adobe Reader, to no avail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! I’m about ready to take a hammer to her computer.
