Adobe reader using window vista

I can not open a PDF file from Window mail
It says to set an association in the set association file.
How do I do this.

I can drag the PDF file to the Adobe icon on the desk top and it will open.

I need help I have taken adobe out and down loading it again two or three times and nothing changes.
