Okay, so I’m a person who went to college and ended up studying information systems because…well it’s a long story. I didn’t like it but I didn’t hate it either. I didn’t do well and the cycle of failure dragged me down with each iteration. Graduated in 2005.
Fast forward to 2008. I decided, that I’m smart, I like to fix things and I’m a problem solver. I figured, I’m going to go to ITT Tech and bolster my IS degree with an associates in Software Programming.
My problem is: I’m not passionate about programming. In fact, I’m not really passionate about anything. I just took my first programming course – Visual Basic.net in its infancy. I really liked the challenge. I would read the tutorials and then try to do the assignments without looking at the cheat sheet. I would do it my own way and I would make those programs work…and work well, no matter what it took. I got an easy A in the class. But outside of class, I just didn’t and still don’t care about programming.
Everyone says, you have to have passion for programming. But what if you have no passions? What if you’re a jack of all trades…I’m good at everything, just not phenomenal at anything. I’m 26 and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I love the things I’m learning at school but I don’t go out of my way to code in my free time.
Am I doomed to fail?
What’s your advice for me? I need help. I’m not sure where to go from here.
