Over the past year, I’ve been a software support engineer at a start-up company. Where there was nothing, I helped make something. However, there has always been a huge problem that makes me hate working here: we have no stable, steady person who has the authority to stop the on-rush of chaos that my CTO and CEO always seem to want. First, they want to solve this problem in a crazy, hair-brain way. Then, 20 minutes later, they see another problem, and we have to reformat this server and create a new environment for them to test on, RIGHT NOW. This goes on and on every day. We blow all our deadlines because they have no real, global understanding or direction. Nothing is ever planned out in a normal, stable, consistent manner. And, the worst thing is that all of us complain and bitch in our own ways about the lack of steady direction here, but to no avail because the founders of our company are the problem. I have no one to turn to. Do you have any suggestions? Alcohol, perhaps?
