Apple Laptops

Okay well i am writing a Folk tale for one of my classes and i finished it
and saved it multiple times, but the next day when I tryed to open it
apple works said that it was unable to open it because of a “I/O error”
Can someone give me suggestions about how to fix this, I realy don’t
want to have to re-write it.
