are there any wireless routers?

Routers are known for routing the IP address to the specific device in the network connected together in LAN or in the Internet,and this router connected with other devices by cables in which these cables are where the routers passes signals or packets to the destination address.So my question is that,how these packets can be transimitted in wireless form? or there should no need to have routers for routing IP address,since the source address can send direct the signals to the destination address without throughing to the routers.
