automated registry backup

Hello everyone. I want to automate registry updates so that I don’t have to go to each workstation. What I’m afraid of though is that there might be an error and one of the wkstations goes down. Is it possible to 1st backup the registry for NT before making changes? (I mean through a batch file or vbscripting?) This seems to be all the harder since unlike win 9x, the registry seems to be in alot of different places.
