Backplane capacity of a switch/router.

Many companies are comming up in the market of Ethernet switches. These new switches are having many additional features along with the huge backplane capacity enabling wirespeed switching.

The formula is: Backplane capacity = or > (no of port)* (port speed)* 2

Don’t you think that this is wastage of backplane capacity, when an average port utilisation does not cross 40% of it’s capacity?
