Backup encryption to tape

Many of us in the storage side of IT are facing a new challenge with tapes falling off trucks and new legislation requiring the protection of the data contained within.

I thought I would start a topic related to encrypting tape backups and get others to join in with their experiences and lessons learned.

Currently I;m working on such a project and have looked at hardware solutions from Decru, NeoScale and Kasten Chase and software solutions from Veritas ( my current gig is a Veritas..Symantec.. shop), PGP and IBM’s Encryption Facility (IEF).

From left field I have Falconstor’s VTL with tape encryption option and so on.
