Best practice for redundant LAN switching

Hi,

I am looking for best practices for redundant LAN switching. I am using HP Procruve 3500yl device and have 4 switches. I would like to setup multiple uplinks between the switches but concerned about creating loops. STP is an option and just looking for some best practices documents I can read before make a case for this to management.
