I’m posting on this forum in the hope that members here might be interested in trying out a beta release of a local search tool that my company is developing, and giving some feedback on our direction with this.
The concept is a configurable browser plug-in (or Firefox extension), one that recognizes real world addresses and phone numbers – of local restaurants, shops etc.- when browsing the web, then lets the user:
> Save addresses and phone numbers for future reference
> Call phone numbers directly via Skype
> Print / email / copy addresses and phone numbers
> Send them via SMS text message to a mobile phone
> Sync them via Outlook with a smartphone, PDA, BlackBerry or iPod
Beta releases for IE and Firefox are at: www.schmaplocal.com
This beta currently recognize addresses on major local search sites (Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Live Local, Citysearch, Superpages, and Mapquest) – our aim going forward is to have the tool work universally (with any address in any language on any website).
Any feedback from members here would be much appreciated!
