bunk update and missing shared files

by vida . Updated 23 years, 8 months ago

I’m super new to linux…
My firewall is Firestarter on a RedHat box using Gnome desktop…
I click to update and it updates, that’s as far as I’ve ventured – things went well until last update when it sorta hung for a second splashed some message about cannot open shared object file: no such file or dir
then it froze. I rebooted, logged on, get to start x and get kicked back to restart with an error saying:
usr/bin/gnome-session: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.2
cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory
anyone familiar with this/similar problem?

I was instructed to start in text mode and update – now up2date is giving me some message about high traffic… I’m at the command prompt and we’re all back online but I NEED GUI! I want Gnome back until I am better acquainted… I don’t know what’s going on… it dark in text mode. (i’m looking into classes and technotes in my “FREE” time)
