burning cd and dvd

When i try to burn a cd or dvd my computer locks up. Even if use nero 8 demo version. I use Vista home premium, core 2 duo and 2gb ram. It used to work. I had roxio installed when i got the computer then I uninstalled it. What gives here . Hope you can help.
