Cable Modem and Realtek cards

I have a client that has upgraded to W98SE and now his Realtek Network card has stop talking to the motorola Cable modem. I have tried removing all of the Netowrk cards in Safe mode and then reinstalling it. However the card reloads what looks like fine but will not se the cable Modem or any of the net.
any help would be appreciated
