Can copy and delete but not move files on XP

This is a wierd one for me. I can’t MOVE files from one location to another but I can COPY and DELETE the original files. If I MOVE the file(s)they become locked somehow. Can’t delete or even access them after the move.
Even rebooting doesn’t give me access to them.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
