Can someone tell me EXACTLY how to connect my Laptop to an generic TV ?

I have a new TOSHIBA Satelite Laptop and want to be able to see certain TV programs on my TV.
I Have hooked up my c with the proper cable R/G/B but nothing happened.
The “help” I have been getting is very sketchy and does not help.
