Cannot open a MS Works 4 database file

I am unable to open a MS Works 4 (Macintosh version) database file. When I double click on it I get a box with the message “End of file reached during read” and I must click the OK. Is this file corrupted? Is there any way to access the information? Or mus I recreate it from scratch which is nearly impossible?
