Cannot Open File – Opened Once changed something can not open again

I have a file that I was able to view with a XP viewer software – I changed something and now I cannot view it at all. It says it is not a XP Document but the extension is.xps on the file as though nothing changed but still cannot open. I want to go to school to learn all this. It makes me a little nutty because I know it is something simple.
