Can’t delete emails from inbox of Outlook Express

I was hoping someone could help.
When I try and delete an email from my inbox a popup box says can’t be deleted and I have to hit the x twice for the box to go away. I can delete them if I shift / delete, it then asks do I want to permanently delete them which is no drama but just two more annoying key strokes.
I have created a new folder and draged them into this folder and then deleted the new folder, but that is also a pain.
I would just like to be able to delete them the normal old way. Any clues? Thanks
