Can’t download photos on to Ipod Nano

Just bought a 3GB IPOD Nano.
I have a sony vaio with XP; with photo files stored in folders under my pictures files.
I have followed all of the guideance and have “disk enabled” – get message “cant find the folder”
I think there is a fireware issue.
any suggestions?
BTW music works ok etc.
