Can’t FTP, can’t telnet.

by barry hensley . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

I have a RedHat Linux 6.2 box. It’s about a month old. Everything was working fine and nothing on the box or the network has changed. Now suddenly, I can’t FTP to the box or telnet. When I try to telnet, I get the following error:

telnetd: /bin/login: No such file or directory

When I try to FTP, it says “connection closed by remote host” and doesn’t even prompt me for a password.

Have I been hacked? I haven’t tried to log in locally yet because this box is located several miles away. I’ll try that next but, I need to be able to log in remotely.

I’m a newbie and I need some help.

Thanks,
Barry
