I need someone to give me some advice in IT career. I am college student majoring computer information systems/Management information systems.
When I was at junior college my major was computer science information technology. My ultimate goal is being a database administrator or network administrator.
When I tried look for job as entry level in IT industry I realized that I am either lack in experience, skills or knowledge. I know Dos, windows 95/98, NT4 (workstation) little bit of RedHat Linux 5x,6, HTMl, SQL, Little of( ASP, JAVA, C++, Oracle 8,DB2). I have been worked at college computer lab for 2 1/2 years and that give me solid basic baground for DOS, windows 3x, 9x, NT and Office Suite but rest are just little of this and that. So could anyone help me what is the best way for me to get into IT career and become a DBA? I was told to get A+ certificate then MCSE, and DBA certificate. Then another person tells me I need to learn programming language such as C++, JAVA, ASP, Visual Basic…Do I have to get all of this? Please help. This is too confusing that not knowing which is best…
