I am a 23-year old recent college graduate with a BS in MIS and a minor in CS.
I have worked as a Manager of IT for 2 years since 19, and a Net Admin for 2.5
years since 20. In my experience I have gained knowledge of about 15
programming and scripting languages, as well as a few DBMS packages. I enjoy
database design and development as well as programming in VB and Java. However,
since my above experience occured during the time I was attending college, most
do not consider it to be “professional” experience. Many of the jobs today are
asking for experience with packages I have used but not extensively enough to
recount them as experience. I would like to find a job that will allow me to
use my DB and programming skills but will allow me to move up to Project/Team
Lead or Project Management within a few years. What types of jobs should I be
looking for? Would experience in a Product Support position for a proprietary
product hinder me from reaching this goal? What type of career path should I be looking at?
