cd problems

I have a PC that lost power three time due to a storm and now the CD ROM tries to vue CD’s as music CD’s. It launches the media player every time a cd is put into the unit.
The OS is Win 98 on a ACER box any ideas for an easy fix. I have tried removing it from device manager and rebooting but that didnt work.
