I work for a small company which I began with the president. We’ve grown from 2 to about 40 in about three years. I wear many hats, those being IT (all aspects), web-design/management, accounting, marketing, and basic operations management. For the past two years I’ve recieved an X-mas bonus for the work I did throughout the year. About three months ago I was responsibly for relocating and expanding the office…. which I did virtually single handedly (New LAN, new stations/server, furniture, office machines, etc….) Down to the pictures on the wall I did it! Translations, many weeks, late nights, early mornings, etc…. Over 150 hours of personal time. Well, I just got my bonus and it was not only less than last years but considerable less than two years ago. In short I’m quite upset (better words: PISSED OFF) and feel that I need to discuss it with my boss (president). To top it off, my sceduled review got brushed off and delayed until next month. It should have occured in August, but the office move was priority at the time. One final thing, I’m a co-founder but not a co-owner. So I’m basically on the “trust me plan” as far as ownership is concerned when/if the company sells.
Any thoughts on how to approach my poor bonus, lack of raise, lack of ownership? Any one else have a similar situation? How did you handle it?
I don’t want to insult my boss, but at the same time I want compensation for my extra efforts. In short, I feel I got the short endof a very long stick!
