Cisco settings

Can anyone explain something to me? When using 2142 to access a router I rebuilt the configuration and did and accidently saved it to 2142 instead of 2102. Since 2142 is just a null address in my mind this should have done nothing but it seem to have overwritten the config in 2102 basically blanking the router. Does any one know why?
