Clean Internet Explorer removal?

We’re trying to troubleshoot a broken I.E. installation on a Win98 SE, where the browser opens up to a blank screen. We’d like to completely uninstall ALL components related to I.E. We’ve already gone to Add/Remove to uninstall version IE 5.5, but are left with an old version with corresponding directory structure. This previous version does not show up in Add/Remove. We’ve been tempted to manually delete the remaining directory structure and all corresponding registry entries…..Is there a better way?
