I have a Compaq EVO D51U with a crashed hard drive (resulted in new hard drive).
Recovery disk I have REQUIRES XP Pro to be installed before it will work (based only one disk, I now suspect I never had the original disks to begin with).
I have had little success trying to reach HP/Compaq to get a opy of the restore disks for this mahine. Microsoft only tells me to call HP.
I tried using another copy of XP Pro using my product key on the machines COA Sticker – no good. Apparently there are different “TYPES” of XP Pro installations based on Retail, business, corporate, or OEM installation. I have no way of knowing which is mine based on the product key.
Is there a good contact # for HP and/or location where Restore Disks for my machine can be found ?
