Compaq Presario 1200 Networking

I have just upgraded to Win2000 Professional and hav not been able to get Win2000 to Peer-to-Peer connect with my home desktop. Before I upgraded I had a P2P network working in Win98. I tested my connectivity with another computer running Win2000 without any problems.
The Compaq does not show any packets transmited nor received. I have a new LinkSys PC100 NIC in the laptop. Has anyone had this problem and if yes, how did you solve it.
