Connect a Computer in a Domain and a Home computer

I have a school laptop that is part of a domain and a desktop that isn’t part of the school’s domain. Is it possible to connect these two in a peer-to-peer network.

I have connected them together and ping both of them and works. But they just don’t seem to be showing their shared folders.

Can the CAT 6 cable i bought also be a problem.
