Connect MS email client to Linux server

I am installing a new RedHat 8 e-mail, gateway, firewall server. The LAN connecting to it is Microsoft based. The e-mail client used at the moment is Outlook Express. I want to use IMAP and SMPT. My question is: Will this work? Will I have to changeto Outlook? What problems might this config cause?
