Connecting Exchange 5.5 to the Internet

by danerdo . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I am stumped and have no experience in this area. I sit two routers away from my company’s internet connection. I have an Exchange 5.5 server providing internal email. Currently the user’s are setup with POP accounts with our ISP and the internetservice is installed on the clients via Outlook 2000.

My questions are as follows:
1) How do I connect my server with private IP up to the internet two routers away from the internet? The router connected to the internet uses a registered IP onthe public side and NAT to our internal network.
2) With no company firewall installed at this time, what is the minimal way to connect Exchange 5.5 for internt email?
3) Will I need to have my ISP place an MX and A record in their DNS server (they provide our DNS services) to point to an internal private DNS server in my company.
4) Do CISCO routers provide mail (MX and A) record forwarding similar to a firewall.

Thanks to anyone that can educate me even a little.

Take care.
