consulting agreement

i am a consultant of company A and working in company C through company B. Now company C offers me a job but i have an agreement with company A saying that obtaining employment with a client or customer with which the company has a contractual relationship, the employee agrees to pay 30% of gross salary.
Is this a legal agreement? Do i have to give them that much of amount if i wish to join company C?
