contractor relations

Hi all,
We are about to upgrade our NT4 network to Active Directory. We are a state agency with three pc/network people, a manager network admin and myself PC/nework person. The job has been offered out to a contrator. I wanted to know if I couldlobby my boss for a detailed report back from the company. I would like to know nearly everything they do from any programs or drivers that needed to be upgraded any incompatibilities with hardware any problems because we will be supporting it in the long run. What I want opinions on is how much can I ask of the company by way of documentation and what sort of questions could I ask? Any help would be appriciated.
