Convert Paradox to Access

I have several Paradox 4.0 tables that I am trying to import into Access 2000. I get the following error message: Unexpected error from external database driver (9737)”

Paradox 3.5 tables import fine.

If I export the Paradox 4.0 table to dbase or ascii or lotus, it imports fine, so I know they are not damaged.

Google, Microsoft knowledgebase etc. all suggest some approaches but nothing useful.
