Copying from internal desktop hdd to a laptop?

My mothers desktop has completely died, the mother board itself has died! – I have ripped her hdd from inside the unit which contains her photos and vids etc, is there anyway to connect an internal desktop hdd to a laptop? – if so how and is it cost effective?- I shall ask if anyone i know has a desktop then stick it in their machine to copy but i think everyone now has laptops! –
