corrupted icons win98 desktop

A user called me recently one morning stating that many of her icons on her desktop were black. Also, most of the
titles in her word and excel were also black. According to this user, everything was fine the day before. I suspect corruption in the file that handles the icons. (I remember reading something about corrupted icons somewhere in the last couple months)
I created a new desktop user and all the icons are fine. It’s only this one userid that has become corrupted.
Any thoughts on which file needs fixing?
