Cracked LCD

Hi,

I had a bit of an accident and my laptop’s LCD is now cracked. I know that I need to use an external monitor but it only shows the boot process and then assumes the broken LCD as primary. How do I use my external monitor and disable my laptop display. Any hekp is appreciated.
