cursor problem

Hi, I’m not very computer friendly, but the cursor on my dell 8600 on xp won’t let me make entries in boxes on windows fields, eg ‘To’ on Hotmail, or write in the message box. Its ok on all other functions eg Google, Word, but I can’t log into my Hotmail or any other internet site needing ID/password!
